Artificial Turf

Athletic facilities often host multiple activities throughout a day or week and natural grass surfaces cannot stand up to the heavy use, especially in poor weather conditions. This extreme wear in tear on a natural grass surface results in a risk of injury to athletes and possible postponement of activities due to poor field conditions. Artificial turf systems have grown in popularity due to their outstanding durability and reduced maintenance costs compared to natural grass. Water usage is another factor that drives the use of artificial turf, although it should be noted that many owners will water their artificial turf fields to decrease the surface temperature on hot days and the static electricity that builds up in the black SBR rubber infill granules.

Mondoturf artificial turf systems consist of UV-stabilized polyethylene synthetic grass blades, known as fibers, and granular infill to produce a surface that looks very similar to natural grass.

Mondo offers three types of Mondoturf Fibers. Mondoturf MF - Monofilament is a truly extruded monofilament fiber which stands up straight and provides the most realistic grass look on the market. Mondoturf TB - Tough Blade is a 3rd generation non-fibrillated fiber which tends to lay down and helps prevent granule migration. Mondoturf PF - Parallel Fibrillated is a 2nd generation fibrillated fiber which is cost competitive and provides outstanding value. All three of the Mondoturf Fiber types; MF, TB and PF are tufted into a 3-layer backing with a heavy polyurethane coating. This 3-layer backing provides great dimensional stability and the best tuft bind in the industry.

Mondoturf Classic infill consists of a layer of black SBR rubber (granulated recycled tires) and a layer of silica sand. SBR rubber and sand infill is the industry standard and most economical infill.

As an alternative to black SBR rubber infill Mondoturf has developed Ecofill Star, a green, polyolefin-based granule which is engineered to more closely duplicate the shock absorption, energy return and ball bounce of natural grass. Mondoturf Ecofill Star is better for the environment and provides lower playing surface temperatures than black SBR rubber, which can reach upwards of 150 degrees Fahrenheit on sunny days.

Mondoturf Fine Tuned System is the sustainable way to use recycled tires, protecting the environment from contamination of potentially carcinogenic substances inherent to SBR recycled tire granules. The SBR granules are coated with polyurethane and glued together to create a resilient, porous structure which is used as a base mat underneath Mondoturf Fibers with Ecofill Star infill. Mondoturf Fine Tuned System provides a consistent playing surface and ensures optimal ball bounce, shock absorption and Gmax.  With Mondoturf Fine Tuned System's 20 year warranty, the upper artificial turf can be replaced several times during the system's life-cycle.
